Q: I am donating my kidney soon and I’m nervous! Is that normal?
A: Yes! It is completely normal to be nervous or anxious as your donation date approaches! To ease your nerves, you can read the stories of other kidney donors on our website or join our private Facebook group where you can interact with more than 300 other donors who have been in your shoes. You can also email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and request a mentor!
This is also a great read for soon-to-be kidney donors: https://kidneydonorathlete.org/2021/01/07/dear-soon-to-be-kidney-donor/
Q: Where can I get a KDA t-shirt?
A: We have a year-round web store hosted by our good friends at Orange Mud that you can see here! https://www.orangemud.com/pages/kda-team-page Embroidered items are available all year, and our screen printed items (like t-shirts and sweatshirts) are available on a quarterly basis – every January, April. July and October.
Q: I live outside the United States. Can I order KDA gear?
A: YES! Orange Mud offers international shipping!
Q: What about cycling gear? I’ve seen people with it on but it’s not on the Orange Mud site?
A: Our cycling gear is now available all year and ships internationally!
Q: I placed an order – how long before it ships?
A: Screenprint and embroidery items will be shipped within 4 weeks. The tech t’s come from overseas and are custom made – that’s the singlet, long sleeve, short sleeve in red and the one teal t, those will take 6 weeks. For specifics regarding your order and the estimated shipping should be directed to Orange Mud. You can email them at email@example.com
Q: Does the Kidney Donor Athlete community give medical advice for my recovery from surgery?
A: No we do not. Donor athletes share their personal experiences but this is not to be construed as medical advice. You should only seek medical advice from your transplant team.
Q: I have a big event coming up and I am making a playlist – any suggestions?
A: Yes! We have a KDA playlist here on Spotify!
Q: How can I get involved?
A: We’re happy you want to help! A great way to get involved is to submit your story to become one of our featured athletes. These stories have inspired many people to donate and help ease the fears of folks that are in the process of donating. You can find that information here: https://kidneydonorathlete.org/share-your-story/
A second way to get involved is to be a mentor! You can be a friend to someone in the donation process to talk with them and be a resource as they navigate their donation. If you’d like to be a mentor, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the following information: Your name, email address, transplant hospital, city and state you live in, and any specifics you’d like us to know like your athletic background, that you conceived post-donation, or that you had a unique complication in your recovery for example. Every detail you can provide us better helps us pair people with specific mentor requests.
A third way to get involved is to volunteer with one of our working committees! You can find the information on our committees here along with instructions on how to let us know you’re interested!
