Kidney Donor Athletes

FAQ

What is Kidney Donor Athletes (KDA)?

KDA is a nonprofit organization that empowers and supports living kidney donors who are passionate about fitness, movement, and community. We aim to shift the narrative around living donation by showing that donors can not only live full lives—but thrive.

Do I have to be an athlete to get involved?

Not at all! While many of our members love staying active, “athlete” is a broad term at KDA. Whether you walk, swim, bike, do yoga, climb mountains—or simply cheer others on—you’re welcome here.

How can I represent KDA in races, events, or athletic challenges?

Easy! Join our community, and you’ll have access to branded gear, event support, and a network of other athlete-advocates. We also offer support for creating fundraising campaigns, applying for charity bibs, and using your platform to raise awareness.

What are some ways to get involved if I’m not racing or climbing a mountain?

Great question! You can:

  • Share your story on our blog or social media.
  • Volunteer at awareness events.
  • Participate in team fundraising efforts.
  • Join our online challenges and community discussions.
  • Help with storytelling and outreach support.
  • Check out our Get Involved page for information on volunteering for our committees or the Board.
How do I start a fundraiser for KDA?

We love our fundraisers! Whether you’re climbing Kilimanjaro, running your first 5K, or hosting a birthday fundraiser—KDA can help. We provide toolkits, stories, branding, and one-on-one support to help make your campaign a success. Contact us at info@kidneydonorathlete.org for more information.

What kinds of stories does KDA highlight?

We love showcasing the diverse lives of donors—why they donated, how they stayed active, what recovery looked like, and the cool things they’ve done post-donation. Every story adds depth to the living donor narrative.

Can I apply to be a KDA ambassador?

Yes! We have informal and formal ambassador opportunities throughout the year. Whether you want to represent KDA at an event, share your story on a podcast, or lead a group climb or ride, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us at info@kineydonorathlete.org for more information.

How do I stay updated on KDA news and events?

Join our newsletter, follow us on social media, and visit our website. You’ll be the first to know about community meetups, virtual events, fundraising opportunities, and major announcements.
