Katie did not hesitate to donate because her mother was in need, and she was lucky to be a match. Katie’s grandfather passed from kidney failure, further inspiring her donation as she wants to have her mother around for a very long time. She is climbing because she feels it is a great opportunity to spread awareness about living kidney donation and because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro with a group of amazing people. She hopes to walk away having exposed new people to the possibility of kidney donation and making some new, great friends.

Katie is in Fundraising & Alumni Relations in Denver, Colorado.  She loves her 3 nieces, two of which are little humans, and one is a golden retriever!  When she is not climbing mountains she enjoys skiing, reading, needlepoint, and painting.  Katie donated her kidney on September 25, 2018, at the University of Kansas Health System, Kansas City, Kansas, and is a board member of Kidney Donor Athletes.  “My mom has always been so supportive of me, and I would do anything for her!”
